Download Time & Speed Calculator
Calculate how long it takes to download files of any size over various internet speeds.
Speed Comparison Benchmark Table
| Connection Speed | Estimated Download Time |
|---|---|
| 50 Mbps (Standard VDSL/Wi-Fi) | 28m 38s |
| 100 Mbps (Standard Fiber / LTE) | 14m 19s |
| 300 Mbps (Fast Fiber) | 4m 46s |
| 600 Mbps (High-Speed Fiber) | 2m 23s |
| 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps Gigabit) | 1m 26s |
About Calculator
The Download Time Calculator estimates how long it takes to download a file of any size at your internet connection speed. Enter the file size and connection speed (in Mbps) to get an instant time estimate.
The formula is: Time (seconds) = File size (bits) / Connection speed (bits per second). Note that internet speeds are typically measured in mega*bits* per second (Mbps), while file sizes are in mega*bytes* (MB). 1 byte = 8 bits.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is Mbps different from MB/s?
Mbps (megabits per second) measures network speed. MB/s (megabytes per second) measures file transfer rate. 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps, so a 100 Mbps connection downloads at about 12.5 MB/s maximum.
Why are my downloads slower than the speed I pay for?
Advertised speeds are theoretical maximums. Actual speed depends on network congestion, Wi-Fi signal quality, server capacity, and protocol overhead.
How long does it take to download 1 GB on a 100 Mbps connection?
Approximately 80 seconds (1 GB = 8 Gb; 8 Gb / 100 Mbps = 80 seconds), assuming no overhead or speed reduction.
